DC Elseworlds Listed by Publication Date

This page lists the Elseworlds books published by DC Comics. This is how DC describes the theme: "In Elseworlds, heroes are taken from their usual settings and put into strange times and places -- some that have existed, and some that can't, couldn't or shouldn't exist. The result is stories that make characters who are as familiar as yesterday seem as fresh as tomorrow."

The Elseworlds books are identified by a distinctive logo. My goal is to list all of the publications with that logo. This list does include a few books that do not have the logo -- the first title, Gotham by Gaslight, is generally considered by fandom to have been an Elseworlds publication based on its subject matter and format, despite having been published nearly two years before the first actual Elseworlds book (and its inclusion in the Batman: Gotham by Gaslight collection confirms that consideration). My reasons for the other exceptions should be clear from the listings.

The books are listed in correct publication order although the listings show only the copyright date; note that they are not actually numbered by the publisher. The publication dates on which this order is based are from my records or from Mike's Amazing World of DC Comics, a genuinely amazing resource created by Mike Voiles.

A similar list of these books is at a website maintained by James Lee. His list provided me with the inspiration to create this one and with story titles for some 1994 annuals that I don't yet own.

A list of these same books arranged alphabetically by feature is here.

In the navigation index, the number in parentheses is the number of titles published that year. The count is by copyright date, not by actual distribution date.
